Hot Extrusion Technology
In this technology, raw materials undergo thermomechanical transformation under pressure at high temperature (HTST) for a short period of time.
This technology is used to produce food products, including ready-to-eat breakfast cereals, snacks, and other textured foods and feed products. Food products are usually heated above 100 degrees Celsius.
For rapid temperature increase, friction heating and other heating processes are used. The food is transferred into a barrel with small threads that generate shear forces and pressure after heating. After final shaping, the food is quickly cooled to remove moisture in the form of steam and then passed through a die under pressure. Products are formed into a wide variety of shapes, including spheres, donuts, doughnuts, rods, tubes, shells, and spirals.
